Laura Dickens

Sound Designer, Composer, Producer from Toronto, Canada
Laura Dickens is a composer, sound designer, and electronic musician. A classically trained clarinetist, she studied performance at McGill, and film scoring and audio post-production at NYU. She has composed music and created sound design for award winning films and dance pieces: The Audience (best feature at the Brooklyn Girl Festival, 2014), and The Yellow Room (shown at Cannes Courtes Métrages, 2013), and How to Relax (contemporary dance piece performed at the Summerworks festival, 2017). In 2017, she released a synth-pop EP, when all the animals are dead, under her alias, LEUCROCUTA, which was described as “a fascinating artifact from [a] distant, dark, and strange place” (Silent Shout). In 2019, she released a full-length experimental electronic album, exorcizes in loneliness, on Lost Angles (Best Music of the Week, NOW!). She has performed on bills with internationally acclaimed artists Joanne Pollock, ADULT., and synthesizer pioneer Morton Subotnick. Laura has also taught workshops on Ableton Live and sound synthesis for SOCAN, the Toronto Public Library, TWIM (Toronto Women in Music), Manitoba Music, and at SKETCH Working Arts. Recently, she participated in an artist residency at the Banff centre, where she worked a project inspired by dystopian science fiction.
