Alaa Yussry

Alaa is an electroacoustic and conceptual sound artist from Egypt, working with voice, clarinet, tape and reel manipulations, endurance performance, and using the body as an instrument. Some of her recent projects include an immersive ritual-based musical game, as discourse in perceptions of the self and its extensions, within the symbolic network of intersubjective relations. Her work concerns navigating a repertoire of memories, dreams, and events, to create a deposit for collectively shared subtleties in experience. Her psychology research focuses on deriving self-applicable frameworks for deep listening's positive impact on death perceptions, and reinforcing sonic activism through deviating from the pharmaceutical approach to sound.
