Lydia Ang

Composer/Sound Artist from Singapore, Singapore
Lydia Ang is an artist and composer based in Singapore. She explores the notions of storytelling through her work, and is driven by her belief in art as a catalyst for honest human connection. An advocate for awareness of our interconnectivity, experimentation, and rule bending, she seeks to write and perform music that defies the discriminating lines - first of genre, then of the rest of the world. Deeply entrenched in her soft spot for electroacoustic and experimental music, her personal playground is built upon an eclectic mix of synthesizers, improvised and diy-ed instruments, genre-fluid music, and earthy songs. She is also a maker, a free improviser, and an active member of the improvisational collective Sonic Escapade. Lydia has collaborated globally with numerous artists on multi-disciplinary projects in film/animation, music, dance, theatre and digital media. Her electroacoustic compositions and collaborations have been featured in numerous album releases, many of which can be found in the nooks and crannies of cyberspace. She is also an adjunct faculty member at Singapore Polytechnic's Music and Audio Technology course. She earned a B.F.A in composition at the California Institute of the Arts, where she studied primarily with composer Barry Schrader.
