Jess Bartlet

Refreshing, individual, and distinct. Island Fox is the genreless project of Jess Bartlet (b.1990). As a prolific DIY artist Jess writes, produces, and now mixes all of her own material. A regular attendee of Red Bull’s monthly engineering events; (titled Normal Not Novelty) it was here she met mix-engineer Marta Salogni (Björk, Frank Ocean, M.I.A) whose work she admires greatly, and got to shadow mixing. In 2018 she obtained an audio engineering bursary from the AES and got intro'd to recording engineering at The Church Studios. Jess is a freelance DIY engineer, producer, and songwriter keen to work on more writing, producing, recording, and mixing for other artists. Sometimes working artist sessions out of Giant management's studio in Hackney she loves collaboration. In her own work Jess has a renaissance approach to her art & has a hand in all of her art-direction. Her favourite type of music is usually genreless and boundary pushing, with a unique/ strong identity or meaning. A scientist, and all round geek (with a particular interest in fantasy, sci-fi, and gaming) Jess’ inspiration first and foremost stems always from following her curiosity, and experimentation. Out of this comes her playful approach to producing and mixing. Jess also has an avid interest in mixing in 360 sound and ambisonics for gaming etc, although currently highly proficient in Ableton, she is learning Reaper and is keen to pick up Pro Tools.
