Singer, songwriter, musician, producer, engineer and outstanding live performer, Valerie Ghent’s unstoppable personality is rich with over 25 years collaboration with some of the biggest names in music. A native New Yorker with a stunning voice, 3 1/2 octave range and piano chops to match, Valerie weaves blues, soul and jazz into a breathtaking tapestry of “soul-stirring, uplifting songs full of vitality and joy.” As solo artist Valerie has written and produced 5 albums, launching the smash #1 hit Love Enough for a Lifetime and New York City Streets, hailed by critics and fans around the world as a “New Anthem for NYC.”
Longtime keyboardist/vocalist with music legends Ashford and Simpson as well as their recording engineer/Synclavier operator, Valerie has performed/recorded with music luminaries and icons including Nina Simone, Dr. Maya Angelou, Roberta Flack, Debbie Harry (Blondie), Sir Cliff Richard, Billy Preston, among others.
Valerie regularly tours and records in France where her single Feelin’ Alright hit #1 on Jazz Radio France. Valerie’s recent collaborations include dan tranh master Tri Nguyen, Italian rap artist The Bumo Sugo, French author Christophe Fourvel and “Live in Lockdown” series created remotely with her band in France.
With a deep love for fostering creativity, supporting artists and dedicated to building community through music, Valerie created Songwriter’s Beat for performing songwriters and founded nonprofit Feel the Music!, providing music and inspiration to children, families and seniors impacted by trauma, illness and loss. A longtime member of ASCAP, Valerie is a voting member of The Recording Academy, a member of both the Producers and Engineers Wing and the Songwriters Wing of the Academy, and member of SACEM (France). Currently Valerie is writing recording her sixth and seventh albums.
